In Florida, especially in Central Florida, there just are not a lot of crawl spaces like there are up north. In fact, we do not have a lot of basements. Over the past several years, I’ve only been in 2 basements, and both were in Clermont, Florida.

We do however insulate several dozen crawl spaces per year. Most of these crawl spaces are located in Downtown Orlando, Sanford, Winter Garden, Ocala, Tampa, Zephyrhills etc. Generally the older parts of Florida where craftsman style homes or older classic wooden homes are built. many times these homes to have block style with joists and wooden floors, etc.

There are several reason to insulation your crawl space with insulation.

    1. Reduce the humidity level in your home.
    2. Reduce dust come from the floor.
    3. Keep the cool or warm in depending on the season.
    4. Makes more home more comfortable.

There are a few ways to insulate your crawl space and it depends on your budget. Most of the time, we recommend using closed cell spray foam to insulate your crawl space. And with this, we will add a 6mil layer of premium vapor barrier on the ground to reduce the humidity. The 2″ of closed cell spray foam alway helps with reducing humidity.

The second option in R13 or R19 batting combined with a vapor barrier. Close cell spray is superior, but more expensive, and fiberglass batting will help as well.
