A homeowner contacted us this morning regarding her bedroom. Her concern was that her bedroom was 3-4 degrees warmer than the rest of her home. This is not uncommon, but when we went into the bedroom to take some measurements, the bedroom was 5F warmer and the humidity was 10% higher than the living room.
We used our FLIR to “see through” to the ceiling and we could see that they bedroom and very very low attic insulation. We then went into the attic to visually confirm.
Our conclusion after inspection:
- The primary bedroom had 4″ of attic insulation.
- The rest of the home had at most 6″ of attic insulation.
- We found a guest bathroom fan duct completely loose and blowing into the attic space.
Location: Winter Park Florida
Concern: Warm master bedoom.
Cause: Lack of insulation.
Correction: We added 8″ additional average to the entire home.
