This week we removed very old attic insulation so we could primarily air seal the entire home. The home was built in 1979 and was actually in great shape, with the exception of the air sealing and attic insulation. This was a 2-day project where we vacuumed all the attic insulation out using our insulation vacuums. Once we removed all the insulation, we then sanitized the entire attic with DSV. The DSV is a great product that neutralizes the old pollens, allergens and viruses. Not to mention any old smells.
Air sealing is important because it stops conditioned air from leaking into the attic and vice versa. Attic air sealing can only be achieved correctly by removing the current insulation so we can have access to the entire attic. Once we have full access, we can properly seal using Soudafoam by Soudal Foam.
For this home, we used 7 full cans of Soudafoam All-Season. Good stuff!
After the customer had the new duct work completed, we air sealed the entire home, added baffles and blew in an R42 average. Click here to read (will publish next week) about us blowing in the R42 Owens Corning ProPinkL77a.
Location: Titusville, Florida
Concern: Home was not insulated well and was never air sealed to prevent hot air mixing with the the conditioned air.
Cause: Older home that was never air sealed, baffles were inadequate, and the insulation was at R9-R13.
Correction: Full Insulation Removal with Vacuums. Attic Sanitization. Air Seal. Added Attic Baffles. Blew in R42 Owens Corning ProPinkL77a.
