One of our customers called us this week to mention that they had 2 back bedrooms that were not cooling properly. When we completed the attic insulation inspection, we discovered that they attic insulation was not adequate and average R12. Having an R12 attic insulation R-Value is not enough to keep a home cool and the electric bill low.
In our climate zone, we are required to have a minimum on an R30 R-Value of attic insulation. Typically we blow in an R38 and on this job, we achieved an R38 through-out the attic.
Our conclusion after inspection:
- Not enough attic insulation.
- The back bedrooms were R12.
- The middle of the home averaged R10-R14
- All the HVAC ducts were sealed.
- The home needed more attic insulation to keep the home cool.
Location: Orlando, Florida
Concern: The bedrooms were always warm, the home had a high electric bill.
Cause: Low attic insulation.
Correction: We added R26 Owens Corning ProPinkL77a to the entire home. The final R-Value is now an R38.
If you have an high electric bill and/or warm bedrooms, call us for a free attic insulation inspection. Likely you will need more attic insulation to keep your home cool.
