Gross and Smell! We were contacted yesterday by a homeowner that just had their home cleared of rats, and possible some mice.
The homeowner stated that they heard sounds in the attic for a few months, and the attic noises kept getting worse. Over the next 2 weeks, their wild life removal company had trapped 36 rats, which is really high. After they were given the all clear, we were hired to assess the attic insulation and what needed to be done.
Our conclusion after inspection:
- We found 2 dead rats that were buried in the insulation.
- We estimated that there were easily between 3000-5000 rat dropping around the attic, this was a bad one.
- The urine smell was high. Not a great situation, so we had to ventilate and sanitize before were started the clean out.
Location: Clermont, Florida
Concern: Smell and health concerns from the attic.
Cause: Rodents were living in attic for several weeks.
Correction: We had to manually removed by hand 1800 sqft of of contaminated batting. We also vacuumed out 400 sqft of blown loose fill fiberglass. Once we finished removing all the batting, we vacuumed every square inch of the attic for feces and finally sanitized the entire attic.
The next day, we came back and installed Owens Corning ProPinkL77a loose fill fiberglass attic insulation.
