High winds especially from storms or hurricanes can easily drive rain into an attic from loose shingles, or even ridge-line or off-ridge vents in your attic and get the insulation wet.
Roof Valleys
In some situations, rain can be driven up roof valleys and if the rain and wind are strong enough, rain can back feed into an attic this way and make the insulation wet,
Broken Soffits
Although rare, if there is another wind and rain, especially with sideways rain. Rain and moisture can be pushed into the soffit area and get the edges of the insulation wet.
