A homeowner called us 3 weeks ago and was complaining about high humidity in their home. They also mentioned that most of the HVAC duct returns were dripping with condensation. They also mentioned that the humidity averages about 55-65% depending on the time of day, very unusual.  When a home has high humidity, its only a few things that help the humidity get into home. We noticed that the home was not air sealed, the ducts were not air sealed and the attic insulation was low across the entire attic system.

Our conclusion after inspection:

  1. Not air sealed.
  2. Low attic insulation.
  3. 1 HVAC junction box not air sealed and had a slight leak.

Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Concern: High Humidity and High Electric Bills

Cause: Lack of Air Sealing and Low Attic Insulation

Correction: We vacuumed the entire and manually removed all the fiberglass batting from the home. We then air sealed all the top plates, headers and HVAC duct boots. We then sanitized the entire home and added R38 Owens Corning ProPinkL77a to the entire attic system including the garage.
