Our attic insulation removal today was required for several reasons. A home owner in Orlando contacted us because their insulation was not performing as expected. However, this was not primary reason for the removal. The issue with this insulation is that it was over 25 years old, the insulation was not contaminated, but the home was not properly air sealed.
Old attic insulation usually performs poorly and will always have a lower R-Value that new insulation, this is a great reason to add new insulation.
Our conclusion after inspection:
- The insulation was old and had a low R-Value.
- The insulation was surprising not contaminated.
- The attic was not air sealed for maximum efficiency.
- The attic baffles were not installed on about 80% of the attic.

Concern: High electric bill.
Cause: Age.
Correction: We removed all the old attic insulation, air sealed the home, and blew in new attic insulation at R38.
