We were called to a single-story home in Maitland, Florida where the customer complained about having a very warm room next to a garage. The home was built in 1979 and was of block construction. The customer had a installed a temperature monitoring system in each bedroom. He discovered that the bedroom next to the garage was 3F warmer than the other bedroom at peak temperature. At night, the bedroom was 2-3F warmer than the rest of the home.
Location:
Winter Park, Florida
Concern:
One bedroom attached to the garage is alway warmer than the rest of the home.
Cause:
The drywall stud wall is uninsulated and has empty cavities allowing heat into the bedroom throughout the day.
Correction:
We cut several holes into the drywall, dense packed the wall with Owens Corning ProPinkL77a and then added a piece of batting in the hole. The next day, the temperature the next day in the room was 3F cooler resolving the warm issue with the wall.
